Huawei Enablement at Contensi: Storage, Failover and Ransomware Protection Put to the Test

What happens when a manufacturer, an integrator and a few genuinely enthusiastic engineers stand in front of a live system together? Right: nobody stays on the slides for long. Our joint enablement with Huawei wasn’t just about product knowledge – the exchange grew out of real mutual interest in the solutions, their capabilities, and the challenges that can show up later in real customer environments. So we put the key features through a proper proof of concept.

What we tested

• compatibility and interoperability of Huawei products with the current version of Proxmox VE
• operating and managing a Proxmox VE HA cluster with two clustered Huawei OceanStor Dorado 5000 systems
• failover of a Dorado storage cluster
• end-to-end ransomware protection – from the backup software through to secondary storage based on Huawei OceanProtect
• a deliberate attempt to delete immutable backups – because in a real incident, what matters isn’t the data sheet, but what the system actually prevents

The result

Every planned test in the proof of concept was completed successfully. The failure scenarios and protection mechanisms worked as intended too – including the failover and protecting the immutable backups against deliberate deletion.

What each partner brings

Huawei brings a strong portfolio around all-flash storage, high availability, backup and fast recovery. Contensi adds the integration expertise that makes it count: solutions aren’t just deployed, they’re planned, tested and handed over into safe operation in a way that fits the infrastructure that’s already there.

What made this especially valuable was the open, relaxed exchange: together we didn’t just test features, we discussed concrete use cases, technical dependencies and potential pitfalls directly at the live system. That’s exactly what vendor enablement should look like – curious, hands-on, and with enough time to deliberately trigger the failure case too.
